How to Set the Maximum Number of Attempts for Certification Exams

Notes

Overview

A new field titled “Maximum Attempts Allowed” has been introduced in the Certification Editor. This feature allows administrators to define how many times a user can attempt a certification exam within a course or playbook, offering tighter control over learning progress and evaluation criteria.

Where to Find the Setting

  1. Navigate to the Certification Editor tab (within the playbook or learning module).

  2. Locate the field labeled “Maximum Attempts Allowed” at the bottom of the configuration screen.

How It Works

  • You can enter a numeric value from 1 to 99 (only two-digit values are accepted).
This value determines how many attempts a user will have to pass the certification.

User View & Experience

  • The system displays the number of remaining attempts to the user before each attempt.
A warning message appears when the user is about to take their final allowed attempt.
If all attempts are exhausted, a message is displayed:

“You have used all your available attempts.”

Example Scenario

If the admin sets the value to 3, then:

  • A user can take the test up to three times.

  • After the third failure, they will be locked out and shown a final warning message.

Alert

Why This Matters

  • Encourages Preparedness: Users are more likely to study and take certifications seriously.

  • Controls System Abuse: Prevents endless retries that dilute the value of certification.

  • Standardizes Assessment: Ensures consistency in how training assessments are delivered across teams or partners.

Idea

Summary

This enhancement improves certification control and training integrity by limiting how many times a user can attempt to pass a certification exam. It adds an essential layer of governance to learning workflows, especially for compliance-heavy or partner training programs.
